What is it:

Okra, a relative of the cotton and hibiscus, is native to Africa but it is believed that it was brought to the Americas as food for slaves. Okra is a vegetable and can be eaten uncooked. Okra plant mature quickly and must be reaped when tender.

 

Jamaicans used okra to put in many dishes. Jamaican men believe okra has an aphrodisiac effect. Therefore, it is blended with other ingredients to make a supposedly aphrodisiac drink. For example, okra blended with raw oats and Guinness then sweetened with condense milk and spice-up with grated nutmeg.
